Heacham Junior School

Curriculum

At Heacham Junior School we are working  to develop our own curriculum offer to enhance the National Curriculum . Our aim is to build an outstanding diet of knowledge, skills and experiences for your children that are irresistible and effective.
We aim to use research based teaching interventions and used them to create a strong communication thread right through our broad curriculum.

We use whole school curriculum themes to act as an engaging starting point to deliver the national curriculum. We aim for children to  become immersed in enriched experiences and quality teaching sequences.

We are developing our curriculum documents to ensure each class delivers age related expectations. These documents will provide a tool kit from which teachers can ensure progression through the curriculum.

Our staff are being trained through Destination Reader, Power for Reading, and Talk for Writing.

These strategies will put quality language experiences at the heart of what we do. We use short burst planning to focus on gaps in children's knowledge which we assess using formative teacher assessment and PiXL. We recently completed a short burst project to introduce aspects of Maths Mastery.

Continuing Characteristics Of Effective Learning into Key Stage Two
We are also developing our wider curriculum offer to increase children's engagement in learning and their effective learning attitudes. We call these "The Characteristics Of Effective Learning " and we are using a continuum from EYFS to KS1 and now KS2. This is to maximise  the progression between settings
